I was blessed to have known Frederick Holley and so very sorry that he has been taken from the world. The portrait is one Frederick painted of me which captured who I am to his usual precise "T". The bottom piece is from Frederick's short lived Vaginal Art exhibit. It's hung in our living room for years and will stay there forever. Amen.

It was very kind of you to make this tribute to Frederick. As a boy, I spent lots of time in Edna and many hours in Frederick's studio. At the time I thought his place was weird and his paintings were neat. As I grew older, I began to truly appreciate how much talent he had and how very kind he was. I truly feel enriched for having known him.
ReplyDeleteOne evening, Frederick attended a party at our house. This would have been in the early 1980's. I was 10 or 11 years old at the time. He began tinkering around on a guitar which happened to be sitting there. I grabbed a cassette and popped it into a nearby boombox and began to record.
Please enjoy....

Hello, my name is Marc Bogerd, I knew Frederick in the late sixties when he lived in Antwerp, Belgium. When I met him he lived in a small house with his big piano and a baby lioness by the name of Titi, named after Nefertiti, music by his favorite musician and composer Miles Davis. Fred was broke and I invited him to my house, it was an old art deco house and he got a whole floor for himself. Titi got fed and Fred got canvasses and he got back on his feet and found a patron to make an exhibition and become famous. He went his way and one day he came in a 300SL Mercedes with a full grown tiger in it. I still have a sketchbook, drawings, small gouache paintings and a few photos. I can send the photos if I know where to send them. In the late seventies I heard that he was living in St Louis Obispo and went to look for him but never found him. This is the first time I hear from him. Sorry it was too late...
